1. Are you athletic? What kinds of sports did you play?
I am now but growing up I played zero sports. I was a cheerleader...surprise!
I started with figure skating and switched to ringette, I tried soccer and basketball but didn't like them. I played competitive fastball for 30 years. I also played volleyball. I love sports, I may or may not be a little bit competitive.
Some would say I am? I like to think that I can hold my own in any sport, but never played anything in high school. I did a few years of soccer and softball but quite for various reason. I can throw the football in a perfect spiral pretty much every time…comes with growing up with a brother 9 months younger than you.
2. Favourite chore? Least favourite chore?
I love doing laundry. I hate to dust.
Is organizing a chore? I love sitting down with my agenda on Sundays and planning out our meals and everything that needs to be done. Least favourite is emptying the garbages, I throw up in my mouth a little everytime.
If I have to pick a favorite chore, the least gruesome chore would be dishes. I like the feeling of a clean kitchen at the end of the day. Least favorite would definitely be taking out the trash. I really loath taking out the trash, yuck.
3. What was your first job?
Babysitting
I would say babysitting too, but my first real job was at a Honda dealership where my Dad worked- I was the customer courtesy driver, the car washer and the inventory counter.
My first job, besides babysitting was working at Subway, yep I was a sandwich artist and am fairly certain I still have the uniform. The owner of Subway also owned the Dryers Ice Cream store next door, and the back rooms were connected, so we would switch back and forth between the two.
4. If you could only see one concert, who would you see?
Randy Rogers Band
BRITNEY SPEARS!
I’m not huge into music to the point where I HAVE to see someone. Is that weird? I enjoy music, I like listening to it, but am not dying to go see anyone. I did see N’Sync back in their heyday and I have to say they put on a fantastic show. I just recently saw Pentatonix and their show was freakin’ amazing, they are so good. So I guess my bottom line is, anyone that puts on a good show.
5. Where did you shop as a kid (or teen)? What was your style like?
JCP/Maurices - style was trendy
I remember loving going to the mall with my bestie, Christy...we would always get similar shirts, whether it was the sheer polka dot or block blouses from Mariposa or the Guess jeans with triangle on the pocket or the Esleep pajamas or the jeans that had a lock on them, or those crazy cartoon character pants. We were so cool.
I shopped mostly at Wet Seal, Express and Windsor Fashion (do they even have that still?). My style was super preppy, blazers, etc. And there was that one year or two or three... that I wanted to be like Blossom and Clarissa from Clarrisa Explains It All (totally dating myself right?), and dress funky, those were not good fashion years.
6. What do you and your spouse or partner or best friend fight about the most?
How we are treating each other. Are we being engaged, considerate, kind, etc.
Things that one finds important but the other one does...like having an empty garbage or picking up after oneself. But I definitely don't we fight often or ever. Maybe a handful of times in our marriage. We totally get mad at each other or annoyed often but we usually work it out before it escalates to fight.
You know Mr. and I hardly fight. I mean I can’t even remember the last time we fought and no fight stands out in my mind that I can even remember. Same goes with my best friend. I don’t think we’ve ever had a fight. I just asked Mr. what we fight about and he said…nothing…oh wait, we fight over who gets to cuddle the baby. Which is totally true, he’s a baby hog.
Thanks for joining us- come back tomorrow for our summer style link up!
Happy Hump Day, lovely readers of The Blended Blog! Today we are excited to review our first seven looks of this summer's Create28 series. If you are new to this style challenge, we have brainstormed daily prompts for you to use to create 28 new-to-you outfits this month! Think of the prompts as little bursts of inspiration to look at your closet in a different way!
Each day of the month, one Blended Blog contributor will showcase her interpretation of the daily prompt. We are hoping that you will visit each blogger and that you will play along, too! You can use our hashtag (#theblendedblogstyle) all week on Instagram and then you can come link-up here on Wednesdays!
Here are the looks from our Blended Blog contributors this week!
On June 1st, Lana of Two Teens and Their Mama showed us her Summer Go-To look! Chambray is a great go-to fabric during any season which makes this shift a perfect summer staple!
The next day, Lisa of Daily Style Finds featured a Surprise look for a fun vacation! The black and white motif is so chic and classic. Can't you imagine rocking that swimsuit in the French Riviera?
For day three, Whitney of Whitney à la modewore an easy, breezy striped top for her Pretty Peplum look. Peplums are a great summer item because there is enough detail in the design of the shirt that you don't have to depend on layering to create interest.
Next up, Sheila of Making the Most of Every Day posted a fun twist of our prompt Nautical Navy. Her red stripes and starfish necklace are definitely sea-worthy without a touch of blue!
On Sunday, Sarah from Foxy's Domestic Sidefeatured a beautiful Warm Weather Wedding look! She looks so feminine in her pretty pink skirt and lace top. How creative to wear a skirt and top combination instead of a dress!
Yesterday, Alison of Puppies and Pretties featured a Maxi Dress look. Isn't the print of her dress lovely! As she pointed-out, printed maxi dresses are another great stand-alone item for summer that you don't have to worry about layering!
And finally, today Christy of RSquared went above and beyond to show us all of her favorite Fun Flats. The Converse pictured above are definitely a classic summer staple!
And now it's your turn! Make sure to link-up your Create28 looks below! But first here's a look at this coming week's prompts!

And, just so you know what is coming up - here is the upcoming schedule.
Hi all, Sarah here. Welcome to The Blended Blog's first post in the Summer Series! I figured since I kicked off the Spring Fever Series, it would be fitting to also kick off the Summer Series as well. I contemplated what do for the series and I thought what better way to get people excited about Summer than with my favorite summer foods. I know some of you might still be experiencing cold weather, but fear not, summer is right around the corner!
I love nothing more than to turn on the BBQ, sit outside in the nice evening air and enjoy family and friends. Today I'm going to tell you my favorite Summer eats. First up something my family could eat it all day long Honey Lime Shrimp. Seriously people, this shrimp dish is SOOOO good! I've made some small modifications from the original recipe, but it's mostly the same.
What you'll need:
1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined 1/4 Cups of Olive Oil 2 Tablespoons honey Juice of one small lime, or half a large lime (2-3 T) Zest of one small lime, or half a large lime 2 cloves garlic, smashed 1/4 tsp kosher salt Dash of black pepper 1/4 tsp Crushed Red Pepper (optional, I usually omit)
I like to use a Ziploc bag in a bowl for the marinade. Makes it super easy to hold all of the ingredients while your trying to put everything together. Put all of the ingredients (minus the shrimp) into the bowl.
Mix the marinade well.
I like to use the frozen shrimp from Costco, so after you defrost them make sure that you really dry them out, I'm talking, use almost a whole roll of paper towels type of drying them out. If there is any moisture it's going to be a little rubbery. At least that's what we have found.
Put the shrimp in the Ziploc bag you just made. Then place in the fridge for 30-90 minutes. I find that anything longer than that the lime starts to "cook" the shrimp. Ideally 45 minutes is the perfect amount of time.
You can cook these on the stove, which I did the first time, but it takes FOREVER!!! 6 shrimp at a time...seriously, forever.
The way to go is on the BBQ! I soak some bamboo skewers in water for about 30 minutes and then put as many shrimp on it as possible, repeat until all shrimp are skewered. So tasty.
My favorite salad to pair this with is a Sweet and Sour Cole Slaw from America's Test Kitchen. Super easy to make and has no mayo in it!
What You'll Need:
Bag of Cole Slaw with Carrots (okay you can cut up your own cabbage too, but who had time for that? I just buy a bag of cole slaw and call it a day...don't kill me) 1 large carrot (if you are cutting your own cabbage, but if you bought the bag, skip this) 1/3 cup of Sugar 2 teaspoons of Kosher Salt 1/4 teaspoon of Celery Seed 6 Table Spoons of Vegetable Oil 1/4 Cup of Rice Vinegar
Directions:
Put cabbage and carrots into colander set over a medium sized bowl. Mix the sugar, salt and celery seed in with the cabbage.
Let stand until cabbage starts to wilt (1-4 hours)
I actually make a double batch so I put it in several colanders...so it really looks like this:
Once the slaw has rested long enough, drain out the liquid from the bottom ( you will not be using this again). This is how much liquid I got from mine.
Then add the rice vinegar and oil, toss with the cabbage and enjoy! It tastes better if you can let it sit in the fridge for a few hours before serving.
I lessened the amount of sugar, so if you like things really sweet add a bit more sugar.
I love all of the fresh fruit that is out for the summer too, strawberries, raspberries, peaches, nectarines, watermelon. Speaking of which here's a quick video on a cool way to cut watermelon up for your kids. Baby Fox absolutely loves eating it like this, easy and less messy too.
What better way to round out dinner than with some strawberry short cake :)
And there you have my perfect Summer Meal: Shrimp, Cole Slaw, Fresh Fruit and some Angel Food Cake with Fresh Strawberries to top it off.
What is your favorite Summer meal?
Sarah is a regular contributor of The Blended Blog. She is an engineer and Mom of 2 just trying to bring out her creative side through her blog, Foxy's Domestic Side.
Hi! Sarah here, I'm so excited for my turn so I can introduce a great all around gal, Beth. I can't remember how I found her, but she had just started taking one picture week of her girls just before Church and I remember thinking how cool/dedicated that was. She has some great content, some great link ups, like The Kids Behind the Blog, $10 Target Haul, Teacher Blog Hop, Picture Perfect are just some of them! She home schools her girls and has the greats crafts and food recipes around! Okay enough gushing, Take it away Beth!
Obsessive, determined, and eclectic. Having picked those words I now read them and feel like I must sound like a hot mess to others, but I am sticking with my gut and going with it.
Are you married? Do you have any children?
I have been married to Russ for almost 9 years now. We have two little girls that I am so blessed to call mine. Marissa who is turning 8 soon and Emily who is 5. You can read more about us here.
What hobbies do you have other than blogging?
I love running and exercising, photography and spending time in the kitchen. All things that I also blog about. The two worlds really do seem to collide which is good, we should blog about things that we love.
What is your greatest unfulfilled ambition?
As much as it pains me to say this, running a full marathon. I know when I ran a half I said I was only doing one to prove to myself that I could.... now I am getting ready to do #5. I always thought running a full marathon sounded beyond the edge of crazy and had no desire to cross that line, but I think not doing one would lead to some serious regret. So even if I run walk, 26.2 needs to happen at least once.
What has been the biggest challenge with blogging?
Finding balance. From the times that I work on my blog to living life in the moment to the fullest without worrying about documenting it. Living a blogger life and not tipping the scale to far is definitely a balancing act.
What is your favorite style season (fall, spring, summer, winter) and why?
I want to say fall because hello, boots and scarves! But right now all I can think about is bathing suits and maxi dresses. It's too hard, I can't pick.
Do you enjoy gardening, sewing, decorating, painting or photography?
Yes! I also dabble around with cars and enjoy shooting my pistol too. I am what you would refer to as a jack of all trades, ace of none kind of gal. I can do a whole lot of different things but I am not sure that I would say I am proficient at any of them.
Thank you so much for having me today ladies!
Thank you Beth for taking time to share with us at The Blended Blog! I hope you all love her as much as I do! Don't forget to check out her Blog and her IG.
Hello! Welcome to week 3 of the Style Persepctives Series. I'm Sarah from Foxy's Domestic Side and this week I'm bringing you White Pants. I picked white pants because everyone seems to be so afraid of them! But you don't have to be, I'm here to show you three different ways you can style them.
First Look: Casual
You know the beauty of white pants is that they wash well and if need be you can bleach them! In all the years I've been wearing them, I've never had to bleach them. For those that say that you're scared that they'll get dirty when you sit down, I've never had that problem. Granted I know not to wear them to a baseball game where I'm going to be sitting on bleachers.
Second Look: Getting Fancy
Any blouse will do, I picked this pretty blue blouse that I got from a friend. And paired it with a cool metal medallion and of course my leopard wedges, my favorite!
I even did my hair for you! Braid into a low messy bun. I can't find the tutorial that I found this from.
Third Look: Let's Skip Spring And Go Straight to Summer
I guess I was really liking the whole blue thing when I went with these looks. Another blue outfit. But I just adore the scallops on this shirt.
I just love these soft curls. This is pretty much how I wear my hair when I am not doing anything to it. It's off my face and just looks pretty.
Last Look: All White!
You knew I had to do one of these! Seems scary right, but just a simple white jeans and tee with a cute color statement necklace is all you need. I was terrified of wearing an all white outfit, but I love wearing it to girls night out, or a date with Mr. And no I would never wear this just to play with the kids!
You could do so much with accessories with an all white outfit! Colored cardigan, fun shoes, all leopard, so many choices...just chose one and go for it!
Do you wear white? Or are you scared? Trust me I was super hesitant to wear it at first, but you just gotta do it and you won't regret it, I promise!
In case you missed it, last week was shades of pink and here is how everyone styled it.
