Happy Tuesday! Katie from The Mishaps and Mayhem of a Solitary Life here today for our next installment of a super fun series, called Styled By...Someone Else! Deena and her sweet family kicked off the series last month and they did such a great job!! And this month, it's my turn!
I had big plans for a super fun get-together with my three older sisters so they could style me! But alas, summer camps and sports and vacations and other obligations got in the way and we weren't able to find the time to get together. So in true solitary life fashion, I texted messaged and called them all to ask what they wanted to see me wear. Meghan and Tara offered suggestions...Erin said she had no fashion sense whatsoever so she would be no help! I disagree with her but will forgive her, as she is currently recovering from a disastrous fall down her stairs and is suffering just about every slipped thing in a back that there is!!
I should mention though that they all thought it was crazy that I was asking them to style me. They thought it should have been the other way around! Which is a big compliment I suppose! And if, I'm being completely honest, I am a little bit happy that they didn't come here and rummage through my closets, as I know it would have been a huge discussion about the fact that I have way too many clothes! Some girls have husbands and kids....I have clothes!! :)
So text messages and phones calls it was!!
First up Meg's request:
She said she'd like to see me in a pair of patterned shorts, flowy tank top, with a long necklace and strappy flat sandals! Easy enough!! I actually had lots of options for this!!
Here's what I came up with! Meghan approved!
My oldest sister Tara thought a tank, pair of shorts and a floral summer scarf would be a good combo. Surprisingly I had a few options for this one. But this was my favorite!!
Go-to shorts for the WIN!!
Despite the fact that I had to do this on my own and it was mainly through texts and calls, I had a really great time with this and was super excited that I had everything my sisters requested. This is a really fun series. Can't wait until next month when another blended blogger gets styled!!
Katie is a regular contributor to The Blended Blog. When she's not blogging, she's laughing. She spends her days as a teacher-librarian to "her" 300 kids in her hometown on Long Island, New York. She enjoys online shopping, fun nights out with friends, or in, binge-watching Netflix and drinking wine. Follow along with her at The Mishaps and Mayhem of a Solitary Life.
Happy Friday Friends! Katie from The Mishaps and Mayhem of a Solitary Life here! I'm so excited to get to introduce you to one of my favorite bloggers today! Emily from Simply a Rough Draft is a Texas girl, who's fairly new to the blogging world but reading her blog, you'd think she's been doing it forever. I love her honesty and sweet family stories. I am so glad I found her blog and am really happy she's allowed me and you to get to know her a bit better today!! Thanks so much Emily!
Other than blogging, what do you do for a living?
I am a full time wife and mom and absolutely love it. My husband and I will celebrate our eleventh wedding anniversary next month. I am the mom of a compassionate and beautiful sixteen-year-old daughter named Kendall, a spirited and inquisitive four-year-old son named Jess, and a sweet and adventurous two-year-old daughter named Jentry. They are the light of my life!
In my spare time I also volunteer weekly at a local pregnancy center, where I am a client advocate, and serve on the Board of Directors for the Community Development Corporation in my hometown. My family and I are also active at our local church, that we love!
What inspired you to start blogging?
Three words…The Pioneer Woman. Back in 2007 I discovered her blog and wanted to be her. I loved her humor, her writing style, and her yummy recipes. I dabbled in blogging in 2007-2008, but never really stuck with it. I had mentioned to a few friends and family members over the last few years that I wanted to start a blog and they always encouraged me to do so, but I was too nervous. I decided last fall that 2016 would be the year of the blog for me…but probably more like Fall 2016. I wanted to have some time to organize my blog strategy (is there such a thing?). The one thing that held me back, was that I didn’t have good camera. What do you know, my mom bought me my first “big girl” camera for Christmas. Well, that was one excuse down. Then, a few days after Christmas I dropped my old phone into a mixing bowl accidentally and had to get a new iPhone…that takes much better pictures than my old phone. So, on a complete whim (so much for blog strategy) I whipped up an appetizer on January 1, 2016 while my husband was watching a bowl game and posted the recipe to start my new and improved blog; Simply A Rough Draft.
How did you come up with the name of your blog?
I had my daughter, Kendall, when I was twenty years old. I am an only child and babysat very little growing up. I have always joked that she was my rough draft child because I had no idea what I was doing. When I started thinking about blogging the term kept popping in my head. I thought about all the times we “write” rough drafts in life and how many revisions we have to do to get it where we want it. Or, sometimes, there are times when our rough draft turns out to be one of the most beautiful master pieces we ever create (like in the case of my daughter). When you read my blog I want you first and foremost to know I am not an expert, this life is my rough draft. I will share some recipes, some (small) DIY projects, maybe even some everyday tips, but I will definitely make some mistakes along the way, too.
What do you consider the biggest reward and greatest challenge of blogging?
The greatest reward is without a doubt the friendships I have formed through blogging. It’s kinda crazy how attached you get to people that you have never even met, but read about their lives daily. I have “met” some wonderful ladies that I refer to as friends. I have emailed them for advice on blogging, computer help, or just a little encouragement note when I thought they needed it. I have been thoroughly impressed with the kindness of the blogging community.
The greatest challenge is writer's block. It’s like a total flashback to 1998 and I’m in English class tapping my pencil on the desk trying to figure out what the heck to write about. Sometimes it flows so well…and then it doesn’t. Ironically, I always have the best ideas in the car (while driving) or in the shower. I’ll concoct the BEST blog post in my head, word for word…but I can’t write in those moments. Then, as soon as I get to my laptop….I’ve got nothing! All of those great things I came up with in my head…gone!
Describe yourself in three words.
I asked my husband what three words he would use to describe me and he said, “Caring, Witty, and Irrational!” I asked my sixteen-year-old and she said, “Devoted, Forgetful, and Emotional.” Wow, thanks guys.
I’m going to say: Dilligent, Creative…and a tad high maintenance.
What is something people may be surprised to know about you?
My friends always find it odd that my two celebrity crushes are Terry Bradshaw and Rod Stewart. Did I mention I’m only 36 years old? People my age usually like celebrities like Justin Timberlake or Matthew McConaughey. I can’t help it; the heart wants what it wants. And, just incase you’re wondering, my husband is in fact, younger than me.
Describe your ideal date night or family day!
My ideal date night would be sitting on a patio with perfect weather eating sushi with my love. No, not Terry or Rod, but my REAL love, my husband!
My ideal family day would be a trip to the Farmer’s Market to pick up some fresh veggies and local steaks, then back home for my husband to grill it up while I chat with Kendall on the patio swing and watch Jess and Jentry play in the sprinklers. I would just sit back and watch the people that I love the most and completely savor the simplicity.

Abbie from Grumbling Grace showed us some of her favorite Bold Baubles! She has the cutest kid-friendly statement necklaces! If you have a kiddo that likes to chew on your jewelry, you should check-out her post!
Leslie from Once Upon a Time & Happily Ever After jumped in to take over Carrie's Gingham Galore post. She put together some layers in the prettiest summer color combination! This is the perfect look if your office air conditioning is too chilly these days.
Carrie of A Lovely Little Wardrobe is the queen of Minty Mint! She created three really pretty mint and blue looks complete with fun patterns and jewelry. I had a hard time choosing a favorite for today's collage!

And finally Alison of Puppies and Pretties is wearing her Super Stripes today! She looks oh-so-cool and sporty with her cap and striped swing dress. This would be a fun outfit to wear to an afternoon ball game!

Happy Monday Morning Gals! Katie here from The Mishaps and Mayhem of a Solitary Life! Hope you all had a great Father's Day weekend with the special men in your lives...
And here it is Monday again!! But the first official day of summer, so a big high five for that! Thanks for joining me for another installment of the The Blended Blog's Summer Series!
Last time around I shared my summer essentials, one of which was summer drinks!!! So today I thought I'd delve into that some more. Drinks are kinda my thing here at TBB! {What else would the single girl talk about?!? HA!} If I'm out, I'll get adventurous and try a drink, drink, quite simply because I'm not the one making it. But when I'm on my own, the simpler, the better!!
Like the post says...it's summertime and the living is easy. And so are the drinks!!
Maybe it's an ice cold beer at the pool or on the beach! Sam Summer Ale is a summer fave!
Raise your hand if you've indulged in a few Margarita Mondays with friends during the summer?!?
I'm typically a red girl, but in the summer I'll switch things up and try some white wines. They just seem to whisper summer to me!! I love pinot grigio and savonuign blanc. Lots of people drink Rose in the summer as well...I plan on giving it a try!!
The star of my spring blog, a cool refreshing prosecco...great for summer too! Goes great on it's own or with a splash of oj or cranberry juice during brunch! I'm not going to lie, I think I like more now than I did when I wrote my post!! :)
All of these are great...whether your heading to the pool, the beach, a backyard barbecue or Sunday brunch with friends.
And because a post from me would not be complete without a recipe for something, I thought I'd share the fabulous summer drink my sister brought to our Memorial day party! So easy! 3 ingredients! I bet you could even make it now!! I am not sure what it's called (my sister didn't know either), so I'm just gonna go ahead and call it...
The Summer Chill
1 Frozen Pink Lemonade Concentrate (thawed)
1 cup vodka
3 Bottles of the Light Beer of your choice
ice
Mix all this in a pitcher (or jug), let chill for a few minutes and serve! So easy, refreshing, and yummy! It was almost punch-like.
I am not one who can usually mix my alcohol, but I was totally ok with this and it was so super yummy! Give it a try....and let me know how you like it!!
Whatever your go-to summer drink may be, I hope it's enjoyed in the company of family and friends sharing memories and laughs together. Happy Summer!!

Good Morning Friends!! Katie here! I'm So excited to be back on TBB today for our Summer Series.
Summer is on it's way! I LOVE Summer and know that many teachers like myself are already enjoying their summer vacations. I still have a little more than 2 weeks to go! But soon enough, the school year will be OVER and with any hope, I will be somewhere...anywhere...lounging in the sun and LOVING every minute of it! So I thought today, I'd share with you my summer essentials!!

But soon enough, the school year will be OVER and with any hope, I will be somewhere...anywhere...lounging in the sun and LOVING every minute of it! So I thought today, I'd share with you my summer essentials!!
ONE: A Hat
Sunscreen's a given and the smart way to go, but to that I'm adding a favorite summer essential...the hat! This is gonna be the summer of the hat! Because the sun spots on my face, I'm gonna be sporting all sorts of hats...fedoras, big floppy hats, baseball caps,...you name it, I'll be wearing it!

TWO: Sunnies!!
I have one really good pair of sunglasses that I wear most often, throughout the year, but during the summer I like to switch it up, depending what I'm doing or wearing, so I go for the inexpensive ones. Especially when I worry that they might get ruined at the beach. {This} is the pair I bought this summer! At 12 bucks they're a steal and if I have to get rid of them at the end of the summer no biggie, if not, then yay!! I love the aviator style.
THREE: A good read!
So excited that this summer I can get back to reading for pleasure! I love when I can just sit in the sun and read for hours. Really excited to finally check some books off my ever-growing book list! One book I'm really looking forward to this summer is First Comes Love by Emily Giffin! What books are on your summer reading list? Let me know in the comments below!
And while your hanging out by the pool sunning and listening to good tunes, ya gotta have a nice cold beverage in you hand...or anytime of day really!! Maybe one day it's just an iced tea or lemonade! But some days, an ice cold beer hits the spot on a hot summer day. Other times, it's a nice cool prosecco during summer brunch with friends. Even your favorite glass of wine cozy on a lounge chair reading a book or watching the sun go down on a warm summer night!! Even a super fun summer concoction to sip by the pool! Whatever your pleasure, just enjoy it!! And come on back to The Blended Blog this summer when you get a bonus post from me...showcasing some of my favorite summer drinks...it's kinda my thing here!! ;-)

FOUR: Summer 2016 Playlist
A good summer playlist to listen to on the beach or at the pool is a must!! I listen to a lot of country but the summer playlist is a mix of everything...it's just plain fun! Some of the songs on my playlist are:
FIVE: An ice cold beverage

This week I'm on deck with my prompt!
Some say leggings aren't pants. As someone who spends a great deal of time in said leggings, I beg to differ. Leggings can be worn across all seasons and really are the ideal look for that Thanksgiving holiday, amiright? They can be dressed up or down, you can spend a whole weekend in them if you want, and they are just easy! And simple and easy is ME! That's why I chose leggings and a scarf for my look today.
Because this is Spring Style Perspectives, here's my leggings look for Spring!
Springy, simple, easy and a lil bit of fun!!
During spring the cropped leggings come out and the sandals go on. On most people this polka dot tunic is an actual tunic, but on me it's more like a dress. I just love it though. My watercolor infinity scarf is my favorite to go with it because the seafoam green of the dress is speckled throughout it!
Infinity scarfs are my favorite accessories. Because, again, they're easy to just throw on and go. And wearing a scarf for me always means having my hair up, which is another plus (especially when you're are not a morning person and leave no time in the morning to actually do something to your hair...I envy Sarah's hair posts!!)
I've worn this look a few times this spring. It just made me happy...especially on rainy days when I could wear my pink rain boots with it too!
No matter what the season, I always wear leggings on rainy days!!
For me and me style, leggings and scarf...any great accessory really, are staples. I comfortable in them and when I'm comfortable in something I like "me" in it? Are leggings you're thing?!? Let me know and link up with us below! I'm really excited to see how you all interpret these looks!! And stop by and see how each of the ladies of TBB styled their leggings today!

Happy Friday Everyone!! Katie here, from The Mishaps and Mayhem of a Solitary Life! I'm super excited for today's Feature Friday! I get to share with you one of my favorite bloggers! I've been following Erika from A Little Bit of Everything and her sweet family since I started reading blogs! I've never met Erika but am drawn to her fun personality that comes through her blog and was thrilled when she accepted my invitation to be featured after my somewhat "fangirl"-ish email!! Thank You Erika!! Take it away...

Thank you, Katie, for having me today! I'm excited to be here!
Who or what inspired you to start blogging?
I began blogging a couple years way back in 2008. I had several girlfriends who had family blogs and just thought it looked fun so I began! It was a great way for my family who lived far away to keep up with our lives and see cute pictures of the kiddos. Over time it evolved more into a lifestyle blog and not just for family.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to blogging? Your greatest reward?
My biggest challenge with blogging was finding the time to fit it into my schedule. I think I've slowly perfected this a bit, but it took me a while. I found myself up late at night working on posts and that just didn't work for our family. Just like with everything, I had to work some kinks out, but I have a much better system down now. My greatest reward from blogging has to be the relationships. There are tons of readers/bloggers I've met via blog world who are amazing ladies. So uplifting and encouraging! HUGE blessings in my life!

What's something people might be surprised to know about you?
Something people might be surprised to know about me...hhhmmmm, I think I just shared this last week, but my high school graduating class had 12 people. Yes, you read that right-12!! I was one of 12 walking across the stage.

Describe your style "uniform".
I think my house and my clothing style kind of reflects this but I like a variety. I have some rustic, some modern, and some traditional things in my house and I love the mix. The same goes for my wardrobe...I have pencil skirts, maxi dresses, and cowboy boots. I find myself not sticking to one "genre" (so to speak) in the wardrobe department, but I find my favorites in them all.

What's your ideal date night?
I LOVE a good date night!! The ideal date night would be us arriving at a jewelry store and Tab telling me to choose anything I wanted. hahahaha!! What movie was that? No, for real-we love going out to dinner-especially trying a new place sans kiddos. We're pretty simple.

What's the title of the last book you read? Would you recommend it?
I just read, Turning the Tables, by Teresa Giudice. For all the Real Housewives fans, I'd totally recommend it!! I am a big Teresa fan. Isn't she just fun to watch? But after the big house, I love her even more.

Happy Monday!!
Spring has Sprung in my neck of the woods and that makes me so happy!! I am a happier person when the sun is shining, I'm not freezing, and the flowers start blooming. Isn't everybody though? Last week Sarah was super creative with our first Spring Fever post, helping you DIY the cutest Burlap Easter Wreath.
Creativity and I do not see eye to eye, but I thought it'd be fun to swing into Spring with some fun cocktails! It's sorta my thing here at The Blended Blog! #myparentsarenotproudofthis...
Winter is all about the red wine for me! But by now I'm itching for something new...
Last Spring I was introduced to prosecco. (Where have I been!?!) And now I've gotten more and more into drinking it these days, seeing as it is a staple at my sister's house! It really is great both on it's own, or mixed with fun! I think it's perfect for spring!! So today I'm sharing some prosecco cocktails I enjoy! All of these are super easy...and always serve chilled!
These prosecco glasses are my FAVE!!
I have a friend I go out with for drinks and dinner from time to time and every single time she orders prosecco with a tiny (and she tells them tiny!) splash of cranberry juice. I've tried it and it's delicious, so now I order it! It's a great brunch cocktail too!! You can even drink it when you have a UTI and you're not supposed to be drinking at all...because ya know, the cranberry juice...TMI?!?
Another prosecco cocktail I'm a big fan of Peach Bellinis! The perfect Sunday brunch must have or Spring happy hour cocktail.
Since this week is St. Patrick's Day, before I go, I wanted to share a St. Patty's Day cocktail with you. Last Friday Andrea shared The Sparkling Shamrock cocktail on her blog! Champagne and Midori! Easy Peasy!! When I splurged and could afford more than the $2 bud lights in college, a midori sour was what I was drinking!! So this has me intrigued and it's on my menu for Thursday. I am going to substitute the champagne in mine for...prosecco! :)
Happy Spring and Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all!!
